HOW YOU CAN HELP


We rely on the help of our supporters in many ways. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you think you can help or you have any questions. You can email the fundraising team at appledown.fundraising@outlook.com

This is what you can do:

  • Make a one-off donation or set up a regular monthly donation. See the DONATE page for information.
  • Sponsor a kennel. For as little as £10/month, you can sponsor a kennel at Appledown. You will receive a photograph of the dog currently living in ‘your’ kennel and your name will be displayed on the kennel door.
  • Come along to one of our fundraising events through the year. Check our Facebook page for the latest information.
  • Organise your own fundraising event for us. We have online facilities and sponsor forms available if needed or if you are on Facebook, you can set up a fundraiser, for example in celebration of your birthday
  • Donate on behalf of someone else as a gift and they will receive a lovely notice of that donation.
  • Register at easyfundraising.org.uk and raise funds every time you shop online. Registration takes seconds, costs you nothing and you do not need to provide any personal information.
  • Add a donation to your eBay purchase.
  • Remember Appledown in your will.


Items we always need


Helping us is not always about cash donations. There are lots of items we always need:
  • Dog food that is unopened and in date and dog toys in new condition. The best way to shop for us is using the Amazon wishlist. Pick some items, they will be added to your bill and delivered direct to the kennels. Click the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/… Please do not be offended if we turn down some foodstuffs. Our dogs are fed a strict diet in order to keep them fit and healthy and we do not accept donations of raw hide based treats.
  • Newspapers. Our dogs aren’t quite clever enough to read, but a good layer of fresh newspaper on the kennel floor every day ensures they stay dry and comfortable
  • Duvets. We use these to keep comfortable any dogs returning from the vets after operations such as neutering. They must have hollow-fibre filling only, no feathers. We sometimes lack storage for these items, so please check before making the journey to us with them.
  • Shredded paper (strips, not cross-cut). This makes great disposable bedding.
  • Our fundraising team are always grateful to receive the following items, all of which will be put to great use in raising much needed funds:
    • Dog treats that are unopened and in date but no raw hide please
    • Dog toys in as-new condition
    • Dog items – collars, leads, coats etc – that are in as-new condition that can be sold
    • Raffle prizes
    • As-new items that can be used for prizes at fundraising events: soft toys, candles, stationery, toiletries, etc
    • Cakes when we are running our own fun dog shows
    • Items that can feature in our auctions
    • Items that we can sell on eBay


Fundraising Auction


Our auctions normally take place three times a year and play a huge part in our fundraising efforts. They are Facebook-based and you can ask to join the group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/appledown.auction/.
You'll find something for everyone amongst the amazing lots on offer. They are always great fun and by joining you are not obliged to bid.



Volunteering


There are many roles at Appledown for volunteers. Maybe you could spare a few hours to do some cleaning, home-visits or office work? Our small but dedicated fund-raising committee is always looking for new recruits with fresh ideas or maybe you could add your name to the waiting list of dog-walkers. Please contact us if you can help in any way, however small. We do have to insist on volunteers being 18 years of age or over.
